Update-May 1st

We harvested about 10 broccoli heads and gave them to the crew that were helping weed and thin Thursday. Brother Goodrich and Brother Bailey started the light poles. We weeded the carrots and some lettuce, beets and potato rows. We also started thinning the beets again. Jana Leavitt ordered the sweet potatoes and they should be arriving in 5-7 days. We need to plant them around May 15. We need to put a drain line in at the south end of the garden to drain off excess water that is pooling up the last 50 feet of corn. If this is completed by Wednesday night, we would like to start planting the young mens and young womens watermelon starts amongst the corn. Their leaders will be contacted Wednesday night. If you would like to participate please call Sister Craven Wednesday or check your email. Sandi has assigned 6 garden experts and herself to take a 7 day rotation on inspecting and evaluating the garden and reporting back to her. Sister Goodrich is putting together an irrigation schedule calendar for people to sign up for any gardening needs prior to irrigation. The watering days vary so the days working in the garden change as well. She has already started putting together a blog and Brother Belcher has started creating the virtual garden online. If we have an abundant harvest and some things are not taken right away,Sandi has put people in place who have volunteered their time to can, bottle or freeze for food storage
We need a lot of people to help on Monday for Family Home Evening. We plan to weed, thin, harvest, hill up potatoes and add a 20 foot section of irrigation pipe. We need to clean and organize the storage shed and work on the garden lighting. We also need to start working on the trench and drain line at the south end. We are going to cook hot dogs and hamburgers and possibly get some side dishes from Relief society. If you plan on bringing small children, we ask that you be mindful of where they are, we have lost some plants due to trampling by tiny feet
We are looking for a utility sink and a refrigerator. We are also looking for a greenhouse or various parts to one. It will save us money in the long run to start our own seeds as well as almost eliminating weeds by being able to use a pre-emergent.
