The Fruits of our Labor

Some of our ward family came to the garden tonight to harvest. We picked quite a bit and gave several bags of produce to various families in the ward. Here is Duane Bartle and Doug Munford harvesting.
A group of hard working ward members harvesting in the lettuce patch. Even though the weather has been much cooler than normal, it was still a little warm tonight.

Brother and Sister Leavitt.

The Bishopric with several sacks full of fresh produce. They are getting ready to go out and deliver to some of the families in the ward. This is what makes it all worth it.

Harvesting

Tonight was a harvesting night. Several ward members showed up to pick the fruits of our labors. Here is Sandy and Jana working hard in the lettuce.
Lori and Liz are picking carrots. Don't they look fantastic?

Sue and others were picking green beans. Sue is just showing a sampling of what was picked tonight.

Here's Brother Adams picking beans and putting them in his bucket.

Bishop Terril and Duane Bartle are showing off the beets and carrots they harvested. All this produce will go to families in the ward. Thanks everyone for all your hard work. The garden is fantastic!

Relaxing in the Garden

Me and my kids stopped by the Garden for a little while this evening. There is always such a peaceful feeling there. We walked around and found a few things.
The peppers are getting so big
The tomato's are turning red
The zucchini is doing great
My boys pointed out this track, they thought it was a coyote, I'm thinking probably a dog.

Ward Garden Weekly Newsletter-May 24th

Ward Garden Weekly Newsletter

A huge thanks to all of the members that generously five of their time in our Ward Garden! Everything to getting down on the ground weeding to working behind the scenes on the computer, every minute is truly appreciated. You will be hearing from them and feel free to come to them with any questions! Their contact numbers are” Esther Lee 398-766 and Kayla terry 398-7810.

Next Friday, May 28th is a Harvesting and Irrigation BBQ! We will do some light harvesting before our irrigation gets started. Hot dog provided side dishes and desserts or anything else is welcome! Our first-Monday of the moth Family Home Evening Potluck at the garden will be June 7th, starting at 6:00pm. Just a reminder---our garden blog is up and running! Check it out to see pictures, leave comments, read updates and look for reminders of upcoming activities! www.loganadlefirstwardgarden.blogspot.com (YOU’RE HERE)

You’ve heard of Adopt-a-highway; well now it’s YOUR FAMILY”S TURN to Adopt-A Crop-Row! Thanks to the spectacular idea of Katie Hunt—here is your opportunity to do something as a family, learn about a certain vegetable and keep it maintained. We are hoping families will take the initiative to learn about the crop at home, and implement that knowledge. We will still all help each other weed, harvest and share altogether. The main purpose is to learn! We are excited to have the educational tool. Please contact Esther if you’d prefer a certain row.

Next week we will announce a date with one of our teachers for our “bottling Beets Class”. We are waiting on the beets’ progress so please contact Kayla now if you are interested in attending. Our donation and volunteer list will be a permanent staple for the garden. We will send these around in church class. Please be looking for them! We are especially interested in gathering outdoor toys to make a kid-section in the grassy area of the garden, and also any picnic tables, chairs, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Now that summer is knocking on our door, we are anxious to set-up gardening classes for the older primary children and YM/YW or ANYONE interested in learning how to work in their own gardens. Contact Kayla if you want to be involved! Once we get an idea of who is interested we will start.

With all the excitement of the ward garden we are forgetting about our home gardens. A group of knowledgeable or experienced gardeners is being formed to be your go-to for any questions you may have including soil prepping, planting, irrigation, harvesting, storing or the like. We are looking for those willing to answer questions from home and possibly visit ward member’s gardens. We need you to help! I you have this knowledge or even just the willingness to learn, please ask Esther to volunteer! What a wonderful opportunity we have to work and learn together. Friendships are being forged in these rows! We always want our ward members to feel welcome in the garden. Please never fell like you have to come to the garden JUST to work. Come socialize and just hang our! Let’s all be involved to make this a true “WARD” garden.

Gardens are for little hands too

The primary children planted their melon sprouts this Thursday. After the sowing they enjoyed running around the garden harvesting beets, squash, carrots, onions, and cabbage. It is exciting to see the plants beginning to produce! Even the youngest children were able to help and had a great time searching the tomato plants for red cherry tomatoes.

Love grows when your family works and plays together.
I came across this saying the other day,
 and wanted to share it.

IN THE END. THE
NUMBER OF PRAYERS WE
SAY MAY CONTRIBUTE TO
OUR HAPPINESS. BUT THE
NUMBER OF PRAYERS WE
ANSWER MAY BE OF
GREATER IMPORTANCE.

I've heard a lot of great stories that have come out of the garden,
Thank you everyone for all the fun and great work.

Family Night At The Garden

What better way then to spend Family Home Evening than at the Garden. My kids came home from school asking when are we going to go to the Garden? They could not wait.
Look at all the fun memories the kids are going to have from going and spending time there.

We had a lot of help tonight. It was great to have all the company.

Is Jill not the cutest, She did not want her picture taken. But I thought she looked to cute.

Bro Johnson made good use of the tractor. The Bishop and Brother Baker and Baxter was helping him.

Our Garden is starting to produce a lot. It is so fun to see.

Cute little Sara has been so excited about this garden. It is so fun to watch the youth and the joy the garden brings to them.

Thursday night at the Garden

We had a great time Thursday night at the Garden. We planted 200 sweet potato's and did a bunch of weeding. We had a handful of people there to help. It is amazing how much you can do with just a few people. Sister Craven talked about assigning a family to a row for them to weed. If you would like to be in charge of a row give her a call. Here are a few fun pictures from last night.

We picked a few cherry tomato's they were sure good.
Some of the youth was there to help, Little Brielle was following behide as we planted the potatos pullig them out and handing them out to plant again.
One of the best things of the Garden the great company
Brother Craven on the tractor
A little Bishop advice for Brother Baker
New friends

and best of all some Father Daughter bonding time.
We will never really know what we will all get out of this Garden. I know it is different for all of us. I really enjoy the nice peaceful feeling that is always there. The great company, and the way it  brings us all together.
