Ward Garden Weekly Newsletter-May 24th

Ward Garden Weekly Newsletter

A huge thanks to all of the members that generously five of their time in our Ward Garden! Everything to getting down on the ground weeding to working behind the scenes on the computer, every minute is truly appreciated. You will be hearing from them and feel free to come to them with any questions! Their contact numbers are” Esther Lee 398-766 and Kayla terry 398-7810.

Next Friday, May 28th is a Harvesting and Irrigation BBQ! We will do some light harvesting before our irrigation gets started. Hot dog provided side dishes and desserts or anything else is welcome! Our first-Monday of the moth Family Home Evening Potluck at the garden will be June 7th, starting at 6:00pm. Just a reminder---our garden blog is up and running! Check it out to see pictures, leave comments, read updates and look for reminders of upcoming activities! www.loganadlefirstwardgarden.blogspot.com (YOU’RE HERE)

You’ve heard of Adopt-a-highway; well now it’s YOUR FAMILY”S TURN to Adopt-A Crop-Row! Thanks to the spectacular idea of Katie Hunt—here is your opportunity to do something as a family, learn about a certain vegetable and keep it maintained. We are hoping families will take the initiative to learn about the crop at home, and implement that knowledge. We will still all help each other weed, harvest and share altogether. The main purpose is to learn! We are excited to have the educational tool. Please contact Esther if you’d prefer a certain row.

Next week we will announce a date with one of our teachers for our “bottling Beets Class”. We are waiting on the beets’ progress so please contact Kayla now if you are interested in attending. Our donation and volunteer list will be a permanent staple for the garden. We will send these around in church class. Please be looking for them! We are especially interested in gathering outdoor toys to make a kid-section in the grassy area of the garden, and also any picnic tables, chairs, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Now that summer is knocking on our door, we are anxious to set-up gardening classes for the older primary children and YM/YW or ANYONE interested in learning how to work in their own gardens. Contact Kayla if you want to be involved! Once we get an idea of who is interested we will start.

With all the excitement of the ward garden we are forgetting about our home gardens. A group of knowledgeable or experienced gardeners is being formed to be your go-to for any questions you may have including soil prepping, planting, irrigation, harvesting, storing or the like. We are looking for those willing to answer questions from home and possibly visit ward member’s gardens. We need you to help! I you have this knowledge or even just the willingness to learn, please ask Esther to volunteer! What a wonderful opportunity we have to work and learn together. Friendships are being forged in these rows! We always want our ward members to feel welcome in the garden. Please never fell like you have to come to the garden JUST to work. Come socialize and just hang our! Let’s all be involved to make this a true “WARD” garden.
